Optimist Youth Appreciation Banquet

Scott Kaplan and Deborah Pettingill attended the annual Optimist Youth Appreciation Banquet and it was a Largo High night!  There are 3 Optimist Clubs in our area.  Two of them, the Downtown Optimist Club of St. Petersburg, and the St. Petersburg Optimist Club chose LHS students as their honoree.

The Downtown Club chose IB student Connor Wilson for his continuous effort with the school’s winning History Bowl Team as well as his studies and how he assists with his brother, Chase. Deborah was the presenter.

The St. Petersburg Optimist Club recognized ExCEL student, Andrew Berger.  Andrew is the President of the LHS Octagon Club and has been a tremendous help to the Optimist clubs, helping them with Spaghetti dinners, Easter Egg Hunts, Christmas parties, Halloween parties, etc.  He will once again serve as the Easter Bunny at the area Easter Egg Hunt in April.  Andrew is a natural with small children.

Along with these two fine young men, members of the Octagon Club were recognized for their efforts to work with our Optimist Clubs.  Attending the banquet were Hannah Marnell, Jiana Batuigas, Tes Bagwell, Grace Pereira, and Sofia Keating.

The speaker for the evening as Circuit Court Judge Michael Andrews who gave a rousing inspirational speech directed towards the student in the audience.  He involved them in his speech and I’m sure the message of staying the course and with hard work, their success will be achieved.

Please congratulate these fine young scholars when you see them.
