What’s Happening In Our Avid 1 Courses?

This school year did not pan out the way any of us envisioned it to. It has been tough and trying for students, teachers, parents and guardians, administration, everyone! We have all worked so hard to see this school year through. I firmly believe that these trials and tribulations will only make all of us stronger, better, and more adaptable.

AVID is designed for teamwork and collaboration. Without the ability to see one another and connect, it has been hard. But I am not a quitter, and neither are my scholars! As a final assignment, I asked them to create a Flipgrid video. “Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create “grids” to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called “topics,” and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.” I wanted to be able to connect, even if virtually, and send them into summer on a high note. I also wanted to see them all, and hear their voices, and allow them to see and hear each other. The results have made me incredibly proud to be a part of Largo High as we push forward on the mission, “The mission is graduation, don’t forget the mission!”

The prompt was:

I miss you all. I want you all to be able to see each other, and I want to hear from you. Please record a message and tell me:

1. What have you learned in AVID this year? Really think about this. Think about what you were like the first day, week, month of school. How far have you come? Where do you want to go?

2. What was your favorite Fun Friday? Please talk about them specifically.

3. Do you have anything else you wish to say to Ms. Molloy or your peers? Remind yourself that kindness counts and that we are all in this together.

Please enjoy what my AVID freshman and sophomores had to say. As well as a few staff. Use the link or QR code to see! Happy Summer everyone! I hope we can all be together again soon! Stay safe and be smart!
