SCHOLARSHIPS

COLLEGEBOARD OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS

The CollegeBoard Opportunity Scholarships are open to all students attending high school in the United States or U.S. territories, regardless of GPA, test scores, family income, or future plans.

The College Board made a $25 million investment in scholarships over 5 years beginning with the class of 2020. Approximately 4,000 students each year will earn a total of $5 million in scholarships, ranging from $500 to $40,000.

This is a unique scholarship program. It doesn’t require an essay or an application, and it doesn’t have a minimum GPA or SAT® score requirement. Instead, it rewards all students’ efforts and actions on their way to college. The more effort that students put in and actions they complete, the more chances they have to earn a scholarship.

The 6 steps in this program help students plan by making a good starter list of schools, help them prepare so they can take their best shot, and help them pay for college. Completing each step will earn a chance for a scholarship; completing all 6 will earn a chance to win $40K for their college education.

When it comes to college, it’s never too early to explore, research, and dream. And you’re not alone: We’re here to help guide you through that journey. Students in the class of 2020 who build a college list with six or more colleges on our college planning site, BigFuture™, can earn a chance at a $500 scholarship.

The College Board will award 100 Build scholarships every month from January through July 2019.

A little practice goes a long way. With Official SAT Practice, focus on exactly what you need to work on most as you prepare for the SAT. Students in the class of 2020 who use free Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy® can earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship.

The College Board will award 150 Practice scholarships every month from January through October 2019.

Practice pays off-and it can help pay for college, too. Students who practice for the SAT for 12 hours using Official SAT Practice on Khan Academy® and improve their score by 100+ points—either from their PSAT/NMSQT® to SAT or SAT to SAT—will earn a chance at a $2,000 scholarship.

College Board will award 25 Improve scholarships at the end of the month after every SAT offering. See SAT test dates.

You’ve built your college list—now it’s time to strengthen it. As you head into your senior year, think about where you may want to apply. Students who create a balanced list by updating their college list on BigFuture™ to have at least 3 reach, 2 match, and 1 safety will earn a chance at a $500 scholarship.

The College Board will award 100 Strengthen scholarships every month from August through October 2019.

Filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, also known as the FAFSA®, is the most important step you can take to get money to help pay for college. All federal financial aid programs, many state aid programs, and some programs offered by individual colleges require students to complete the FAFSA®. Because the FAFSA® unlocks so many forms of financial aid, students from families of all incomes should complete the FAFSA®.

The FAFSA® opens to seniors on October 1st and remains open for several months, but the sooner you fill out the FAFSA® the better so that you don’t miss out on aid. States and colleges may have priority FAFSA® filing deadlines so make sure you know the deadlines for your state and the colleges you are interested in applying to.

With the College Board Opportunity Scholarships, students who fill out the FAFSA® will earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship. If you are ineligible to complete the FAFSA®, you can still earn a chance at the scholarship on your My Action Plan page.

The College Board will award 200 Complete scholarships every month from October through December 2019 and 100 scholarships every month from January through February 2020.

Now that you have a strong college list with a balanced mix of schools, it’s time to apply. Students who apply to two or more colleges will earn a chance at a $1,000 scholarship.

The College Board will award 500 Apply to Colleges scholarships in February 2020. The scholarship opens in October 2019 and students can earn entries for the Apply scholarship from October 2019 through February 2020.

COMPLETING ALL OF THESE STEPS COULD EARN YOU $40,000!
